Accelerated Nurse Assistant & Patient Care Technician Program
The Accelerated Nurse Assistant & Patient Care Technician Program includes instruction in basic nursing skills, basic restorative services, mental health, social service needs, personal care skills, and resident’s rights. Students will learn the knowledge and skills necessary to care for convalescing residents in long term care facilities in 4 to 7 weeks. Graduates of this program will be able to perform Basic First Aid, CPR, take vital signs, apply the element of basic nutrition in meal planning, and follow infection control measures.

Following successful completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate of completion of the nursing assistant and Patient Care Technician course. A permanent record of course completion will be maintained at AAHA. The nursing assistant training is an excellent starting place in health care for those students intending to go further with their medical education. The student will be eligible to sit for the Nurse Assistant and PCT certification exams if all skills have been met.

1. Introduction to Nursing Assistant Role: Students learn about the role and responsibilities of a nurse assistant within the healthcare team. They understand the importance of effective communication, maintaining patient privacy and dignity, and working within legal and ethical boundaries.
2. Basic Nursing Skills: Students acquire the fundamental skills necessary to provide basic patient care. This includes learning how to take vital signs, assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and feeding, and safely move and transfer patients.
3. Infection Control and Safety: Students learn infection control protocols, proper hand hygiene, and techniques to prevent the spread of infections. They also learn about maintaining a safe environment for patients and themselves, including identifying and responding to potential hazards.
4. Body Systems and Anatomy: Students gain a basic understanding of the structure and function of the human body, including major body systems and their interconnections. This knowledge helps them provide appropriate care and understand the impact of various health conditions on patient well-being.
5. Medical Terminology: Students learn common medical terminology used in healthcare settings to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals and understand medical documentation.
6. Patient Care Procedures: Students are trained in essential patient care procedures, such as taking and recording vital signs, assisting with mobility and ambulation, providing personal hygiene care, and assisting with feeding and nutrition.

8. Clinical Experience: Our nurse assistant program includes a supervised clinical experience component. This allows students to apply their knowledge and skills in a real healthcare setting under the guidance of experienced instructors. They work directly with patients, gaining hands-on experience in providing care and practicing the skills they have learned.
Certification:
Upon completion of the nurse assistant program, students may be eligible to take a state competency exam to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
